云登市圣湖区(Sanctuary Lakes)自成一区的愿望失败

尽管有84.5％的受访者表示投票支持该提案，云登市议会还是否决了推动将圣湖区(Sanctuary Lakes)设立成为一个新区。

经过五周的社区咨询，市议会给市议员们的一份报告建议反对支持该提案，因为没有明显的边界选择，以及对社区的益处不明确，并且因为两所学校对他们成为圣湖区一部分后的联邦政府资助表示了担忧。

Tony Hooper议员表示1万1千份调查卷中，只收到了2127份答复，因此做变更的理由不够充分。他质疑这个提案如果获批，Sanctuary Lakes将采用Hobsons Bay的3028邮政编码。

Mia Shaw议员说：“我也非常关注这个以商业住宅区命名郊区的先例，而忽视市政府自己的政策。”

安亚伦议员(Cr Aaron An)则表示，市议会应该考虑社区对这个提案的支持。安议员说：“鉴于参与投票的人中有近85％的人支持该提案，我们市议会也应该予以支持。”

投票中，Josh Gilligan、Kim McAliney、Walter Villagonzalo、安亚伦(Aaron An)投票支持Sanctuary Lakes成为一个新区。

而Tony Hooper、Heather Marcus、Mia Shaw和Peter Maynard则不顾调查报告的结果，对这项提案投了反对票。

投票以4：4持平，最后市长Cr Peter Maynard投了决定性的否决票。

圣湖区(Sanctuary Lakes)居民Angela York将这一否决描述为对民主的攻击。她说：“那些投票反对我们意愿的市议员和市政府工作人员们应该感到羞耻。”

Sanctuary Lakes Resort Services主席Craig Pitts表示，市议会里有人歪曲了调查结果，并补充说，如果圣湖区(Sanctuary Lakes)成为一个独立的区，对周边学校的政府补助资金并不会产生影响。他呼吁市议会公开所有与调查有关的文件 - 包括任何政府机构、市议会，以及议员们之间的通信 - 以帮助居民了解市议会拒绝这个提案背后的理由。
