Victoria's Container Deposit Scheme

Wednesday, 1 November, 2023

From today, Victorians can exchange eligible drink containers for 10 cents through CDS Vic.

This will bring positive change to our communities and our environment.

How to participate

  1. Check the 10c mark on drink containers
  2. Collect eligible beverage containers
  3. Send to recycling point

Find your nearest recycling point

There will be hundreds of recycling points across Victoria. To find a recycling point near you, view the interactive map https://cdsvic.org.au/locations

Operators and redemption

There will be three operators managing parts of Victoria. They  operate the recycling points, including the redemption payment.

Different locations may have different redemption types. Which can include:

  • Voucher
  • Online payment
  • Cash
  • Donation

Eligible drink containers

What can be recycled

Most aluminum, glass, plastic and carton beverage containers between 150 ml and 3 liters.
Check the beverage container for the 10c mark (the mark is usually located near the barcode).
Do not squeeze the container (caps can be placed on them and can be recycled).

What can't be recycled

Certain beverage containers are not eligible for redemption. These include:

  • Pure milk bottle
  • Red wine bottle
  • Liquor bottle
  • Containers of 1 liter or more for juice, flavored milk or water
  • Containers smaller than 150ml cannot be recycled
  • Containers larger than 3 liters

Recycling point type

  • Automatic recycling machine: Place the container into the recycling machine. These containers will be scanned, so the barcode must be clearly visible.
  • Recycling warehouse: suitable for large-volume recycling. Walk into the warehouse or drive through at any time and have your beverage containers counted without leaving your car.
  • Counter service: In some places, local businesses offer counter service similar to recycling warehouses.
  • Pop-up Events: Follow special events in your area.

Fundraising and Donations

Victoria's Container Deposit Scheme provides a new way for charities and community groups to raise funds through recycling. For more information, visit the fundraising page and talk to your zone operator.
