I’m pleased to support this motion.

I want to first talk about how pleased I am that we will start services planning for a Williams Landing Library. 

Service planning work will be undertaken on the Williams Landing area and will be completed by the end of June 2018. 

This work will include detailed analysis of library service provision requirements in Williams Landing and will help drive future decisions to meet community needs.

I’d also like to single out some important work we will be doing to support work under my Smart City portfolio.

Well live in an increasingly technology-driven age, meaning as an organisation and as a city, there is an ongoing need to look towards new approaches. Innovative technologies and smart infrastructure can create an environment that supports the community and fosters economic growth.

Wyndham City Council is committed to building Wyndham into a connected digital city, through leading-edge technology, key partnerships and integrated actions.
 
The Future City & Digital Strategy is a major initiative in this Budget that will be a four-year strategic framework that harnesses the opportunities provided by digital technology, data & analytics and collaboration that will support the development of a Smarter Wyndham.

The strategy encompasses the complex cross-section of digital, information technology and smart city fields. The strategy is about thinking systematically and thinking holistically about the influence of technology on cities.

In seeking an end-to-end approach, the strategy will define the role of Wyndham City Council in the larger ecosystem that will enable the city to stimulate economic activity and achieve higher levels of sustainability. It will also enhance liveability, make better use of technology and more efficiently manage operations and service the community needs through smart partnerships, smart policy and smart technology.

Mr Mayor for these and also the record Capital Works we will undertake, I’m pleased to support this draft budget being put on public display for comments.
