Wyndham Smart City Strategy Award

A Wyndham City Strategy that outlines how new and innovative technologies will be embraced to make cities better, has been recognised as the best in Australia and New Zealand.

The Wyndham Smart City Strategy 2019-2024, released in June this year, won the prestigious award at the Smart Cities Council Australia New Zealand 2019 awards ceremony Thursday night (31st October).

Smart City Portfolio Holder, Cr Aaron An, said the strategy garnered wide praise and involved working with universities, businesses and other government agencies.

“It’s a fantastic honour to be recognised for our achievements and progress we look forward to continuing our work with the community and partners to transform Wyndham into a Smart City,” Cr An said.

Cr An said the Strategy was a key step in designing the vision for our future and the steps to get there, some of which have already been rolled out in Wyndham.

“Our community first approach to using digital technologies is a blueprint for transforming growing communities into modern, smart cities,” Cr An said.

The Strategy recognises the uniqueness required across intelligent planning, innovative services, and smart technology to create liveable and connected communities and neighbourhoods in a growing city.”

“We are embracing new and emerging technology, data and innovation to create one of Australia’s most liveable and prosperous cities.”

“It also demonstrates and outlines how Council will work towards solving challenges such as transport and congestion, our local environment and the use of emerging and smart technology to modernise and improve services such as parking, community engagement, waste collection and infrastructure management.”

“We have already introduced smart technologies to improve planning and capital outcomes through virtual reality, make our customer service more accessible through multilingual virtual assistants, as well as projects like the smart bins, smart BBQs, online capital works dashboard, the list goes on – and this is just the beginning.”
