Notice of Motion 572 - Car Parking and Public Transport Solutions

Date:
Tuesday, 5 December, 2017

TAKE NOTICE that at the Council Meeting to be held on 5 December 2017, it is my intention to move the following motion:

That Council:
1. Notes growing community concern about the lack of parking at Williams Landing and other train stations in Wyndham, as further evidenced by the receipt of Council of petitions detailing some of these concerns
2. Accepts that any proposal for a multi-level carpark here and at other train stations in Wyndham are more complex and costly projects and are likely to require a planning and funding partnership with the State Government
3. Request that the report to be brought back to Council on the earlier petition received tonight concerning a multi-level carpark contain officer advice about constraints and other relevant factors to be considered in any feasibility
4. Request a more detailed report by March 2018 on advocacy priorities around public transport in Wyndham, including:
    a. Improved bus services (increase frequency and additional routes);
    b. Likely constraints and opportunities as well as timing for improved train services during peak hours; and
    c. Timing of building of new train stations in Wyndham.

RATIONALE

Population in our city is increasing and this is one of the main reasons transport issues have been one of the top priorities for our community.

Reliable public transport is one of the key elements for solving road congestion issues. Research shows an interconnected public transport system is key to achieving a ‘30 minute neighbourhood’ and Smart City, as it ensures accessibility for residents to the jobs and services they need.

Car parking at Williams Landing and other train stations in Wyndham are full during peak hours, and this situation is getting worse.

This motion aims to receive further officer advice about solutions to tackle long-standing car parking problems as well as complementary public transport solutions for all of Wyndham.
