Smart Students Gather For Smarther

Some of the region’s greatest young females will gather for an event that celebrates science, technology, engineering and maths.

Hosted at the Wyndham Tech School, the SmartHer Wyndham Challenge will see clever young women aged between 13 and 17 using innovation and emerging technologies to solve problems faced by the community.

Smart City Portfolio Holder, Cr Aaron An said the event was a great way to support female students interested in science, technology, engineering or maths, and inspire careers in the industries.

“We’re proud to partner with the Wyndham Tech School to host this event, which encourages and inspires young females to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and maths,” Cr An said.

“In 2017, just 24% of STEM jobs were occupied by women. This figure just isn’t good enough. We know that there are plenty of bright young women in our community, which is why we’re proud to host this event with the Wyndham Tech School.”

“Similar to a hackathon, we’ll see groups of young females working in teams alongside educators, industry and business leaders to solve challenges faced by our community by using smart technologies.”

“At Wyndham, we’re committed to being a smart city, by exploring advances in technology and data analysis that provide us with tools to respond to challenges. We’re proud to be leaders in this space, and this event is just another example of that.”

The SmartHer Wyndham Challenge will be held on 19th October, 2018 at the Wyndham Tech School. For more information visit: https://wyndhamtechschool.vic.edu.au/activities-events/.
