On 25th June 2019, Wyndham City Council adopted its 2019/20 City Plan and Annual Budget. $1.236 million is included in the budget towards a library and community centre in Williams Landing.

Cr Aaron An who has been working hard on this said: "For many years, as a local resident and as a Councillor, I have been working hard to make sure that the Harrison Ward, including the Williams Landing community, has access to the services and infrastructure that our growing community needs".

"I am pleased that this vision for the community is being realised through this year’s budget, with the inclusion of the Williams Landing Library and Community Centre", Cr An said, "This year will mark the commencement of this significant project for the Williams Landing community".

"The Library Services Strategy and other service planning work undertaken during this term of Council have developed the evidence base for the need for this infrastructure. It showed the need for an integrated facility that:

  • incorporates a range of learning and reflection areas,
  • offers a comprehensive collection based on community interest,
  • provides access to technology,
  • delivers spaces for community to gather – both informally and formally,
  • includes consulting rooms a range of services including maternal and child health and other services and
  • spaces for young people. "

Unlike other community infrastructure projects in growth areas, there was no land for developer contributions set aside for this project.

Cr An said, "What this means is that the first step is securing a site and working with the community to develop the service model and design – this is what you will see progressing in this financial year. "

"Over the coming months, and as this project develops, there will be plenty of opportunities for you to have your say about what is important. "

"This is a long term project, and I am looking forward to working with the community to deliver this important community infrastructure for the Williams Landing community and for all of Wyndham more broadly."
