Lunar New Year Celebration 2019
Today is the 12th day of the First Month of the Year of the Pig. Xin Nian Kuai Le! Happy Lunar New Year!
It’s great to see so many families and children from our local community coming together to celebrate this special occasion.
The Lunar New Year is one of the most important events in Chinese culture and the Asia Pacific region, I am grateful that as a community we all get to take part in this event.
Wyndham is home to people from over 162 different countries and almost half of all our residents were born overseas. One of the best things about Wyndham is our diversity of people. Our uniqueness, with so many different cultures to explore and enjoy, brings a richness and vibrancy to Wyndham. This is what makes Wyndham so special.
Celebrating the Lunar Festival is so important because we have a growing and diverse community here in Wyndham.
Wyndham Council values and supports the cultural expression of its residents. That’s why festivals such as today's are so important for our community.
This festival has something for everyone, traditional costumes and performances, lion and dragon dances and an array of food and children’s activities. At the end of the festival, there will be a fantastic fireworks display for everyone to enjoy.
It is a festive time. A celebration of a year of hard work and a perfect time for rest and relaxation with the family. Most importantly, Chinese Lunar New Year is a celebration of a new beginning and a great start for everyone.
On behalf of Wyndham City, I would like to acknowledge and thank the Point Cook Cultural Community Association for organising this fantastic event.
I would also like to thank all the performers and everyone who helped arrange the activities, food stalls, rides and fireworks to make this celebration even more exciting and fun for everyone.
Thank you, everyone, for coming and celebrating the Chinese Lunar New Year with us today. We wish all of you Good fortune, Good luck and a prosperous Year of the Pig.
Xie Xie! Thank you!
