Response to Petition 18/05 - Installation of A Speed Treatment to Deter Speeding on Grassbird Drive, Point Cook
In August last year, concerned residents of Grassbird Drive raised the matter of vehicles speeding on the street via a petition to Council.
Council has carefully considered the concerns raised and agree that traffic behaviour needs addressing particularly as there are many children using this road to go to the schools and parks nearby.
I am concerned that 200 vehicles each day are considered as speeding and that the volume of 900 vehicles per day is anticipated to increase as Grassbird Drive provides a key east-west link through this area of Point Cook, so something needs to be done.
To this end, I am pleased to note that Council is now considering installing a treatment to slow down traffic and that the recommendation is flexible enough to allow Council officers to liaise with residents on the actual type of treatment to be used and its location.
The intent of this recommendation is to allow residents to have a say about changes that affect their street and to minimise any inconvenience to local residents.
This is a good outcome and shows that the Council wants to work with our residents on solutions that suit them.
