Wyndham Coastal and Marine Management Plan
This Coastal and Marine Management Plan has been developed in partnership with our local community over several years and provides a framework for the improved access and development of our city’s coastline.
I am pleased to see that the preparation of the Plan has included comprehensive community engagement, commenced back in 2018, where community aspirations, ideas and preferences have guided major implementation initiatives and priorities.
The project has also involved significant engagement with State government agencies involved in coastal planning and the management of the marine environment.
The Plan embodies sustainable land management principles, including the use of sea-level rise projection and mapping of significant vegetation species within the marine environment and along the coastal edge to guide future precinct planning.
The plan also outlines a range of coastal tourism and land use development opportunities with the potential to attract more visitors to Wyndham.
I am excited to see that implementation of the Plan includes several major initiatives that will lead to a better connected and resilient City. I want to highlight:
- The development of a boardwalk and footbridge connecting Sanctuary Lakes and Saltwater Coast communities;
- Master planning at Campbells Cove to guide the development of a future shared path alignment and open space improvement works.
- Implementation of the K Road Cliffs Master Plan;
This Coastal and Marine Management Plan provides a unique opportunity for the Council to actively plan and invest in future improvement works on our coastline.
Implementation of the Plan will leave a lasting legacy for future generations to use and enjoy improved access of open spaces, better community facilities and connectivity to the Port Phillip Bay Trail.
I commend the great work done by the team lead by Ludo, Antoniette and Sue as the author, as well as everyone involved and provided very valuable feedback. Well done.
Thank you.
